Timothy Evans Finally Had His Name Cleared
With the royal pardon recommended by Roy Jenkins, Timothy Evans's remains were exhumed from Pentonville Prison and reburied in St. Patrick's cemetery in Leytonstone. As part of the pardon, the Home Office awarded ex-gratia payments to Timothy's half-sister, Mary Westlake, and sister, Eileen Ashby, as compensation for the miscarriage of justice.
While the clearing of Timothy's name marked a significant milestone, it would take decades for his innocence in the alleged crimes to be officially recognized.
