Bessie Reece Had Also Admitted to the Murders

Among the significant discoveries made by Lane was the revelation that Bessie Reece, the woman responsible for serving the poisoned lunch to the children, had repeatedly "admitted" to the murders while residing in a nursing home in Wauchula.

According to nursing assistant Belinda Romeo, Reece had spoken about how she had "murdered those children" on numerous occasions. However, Reece's mental state had been severely compromised by Alzheimer's Disease, rendering her confession legally unreliable and inconsequential.
