Shoes Off at the Door
While many cultures prefer guests to remove their shoes upon entering a home, the tradition goes a step further in Turkey. Shoes are expected to come off before crossing the threshold, often left at the entrance or sometimes on the street.
Nevertheless, individuals can opt to carry an additional pair of slippers for the purpose of changing. This custom may draw from the Islamic practice of removing one's shoes upon entering a mosque.
