Despite its mountainous terrain, Switzerland surprises with an astonishing number of lakes—around 7,000 in total. Among these, 1,500 are classified as major lakes. The largest of them all is Lake Geneva, which is so expansive that it is shared with neighboring France under the name Lac Léman.
