25. Entrance

As we mentioned earlier on this list, the Japanese take off their shoes before entering the house. This prevents the wooden floor from getting scratched but also prevents too much dirt from entering the house. In Western countries, we sometimes have entry areas for coats and shoes or full mud baths. However, in Japan, they have a small airstrip right near the front door, and people have to step on before entering the house.
