Allen-Lambe House
Wichita

19. Allen-Lambe House

This home was built in Wichita, Kansas, by Frank Lloyd Wright for former Kansas Governor Henry Justin Allen and his wife, Elsie. Constructed in 1917, it was one of the last Prairie Houses of Wright. There are central prairie and Japanese touches in the home since Wright served at the Imperial Hotel in Japan at the same time.

At the time, the Allen-Lambe House was known as a forward-thinking house and had many modern appliances, such as an alarm system, a gas fireplace, and a central vacuum unit. The first firewall in a residential home also contained it. Since 1973, this home has been on the National Register of Historic Places and used for the Arts Museum.
