After the success of Jaws, Colombia Pictures acquired the rights to The Deep, featuring Jacqueline Bisset's character, Gail Berke. Bisset's controversial attire, notably the white T-shirt and black bikini bottom in the opening scene, garnered attention, particularly among male viewers, and contributed to the film's popularity.
Publishing houses, without her consent, even published images of Bisset in the outfit in Playboy and Penthouse magazines, leading to unintended notoriety. As producer Peter later reflected, the outfit's marketing significantly impacted the film's success.
