20. Help with your immune system
The body's immune system helps fight disease and prevents you from getting sick. Many people do their best to avoid germs at all costs, but this can be negative. If you treat yourself like you live in a bubble, you will become less tolerant over time. By being exposed to more dirt and bacteria while gardening, your body builds up better disease resistance, and your immune system becomes more robust.
If you garden in the spring and summer, you'll get a lot less sick in the fall and winter. Even if you are unfortunately ill with the worst flu wave of the year, you can still cope with illness faster than someone with an unhealthy lifestyle. This is even more true if you happen to have a greenhouse that grows vegetables all year round. There is nothing better against disease than a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup.
