Joe Gardner — Based on Jamie Foxx
In 2020, Jamie Foxx made Pixar history by becoming the first Black lead in the animated film "Soul." While Joe Gardner, his character in the movie, was based on a real-life music teacher from Queens, the animators drew inspiration for Joe's features from Jamie Foxx. This choice was not surprising, considering that Jamie provided the voice for the character, allowing his unique personality and expressions to shine through in the animation.
