Scat Cat — Based on Louis Armstrong
In the charming 1970 Disney classic "The Aristocats," one of the standout characters is Scat Cat, a talented trumpet-playing feline named in honor of musician Scatman Crothers. However, what many may not be aware of is that this cool cat was originally intended to be voiced by none other than the legendary Louis Armstrong. This connection to Armstrong is evident in Scat Cat's character design, which includes a distinctive gap in his teeth and an approach to playing his instrument that emulates Armstrong's style.
Unfortunately, Louis Armstrong had to decline the role due to health reasons, but his influence on Scat Cat remained palpable. The decision to draw inspiration from Armstrong's iconic features and musical prowess enriched the character. It paid tribute to one of the most celebrated jazz musicians ever, leaving an enduring mark on Disney's animated legacy.
