1.The MacGyver of Rescue Situations

"We received a report about a small child trapped in a bathtub. Nobody could figure out how a youngster could become physically trapped in a bathtub, so we arrived in one of our engines and took a look. The boy, who was about three years old at the time, had been left in the bath to play as it drained. There was a screwed-down sieve with five holes in the drain. Kiddo had five fingers and must have believed jamming them through the holes was a brilliant idea. Naturally, they swelled and became stuck. So now we had a child clinging to a bathtub drain with no method of removing the screw holding him there. I was sent down to obtain earplugs, a dog plushie, a spare helmet, safety goggles, a gas-powered angle grinder, and a hefty hammer.

"We refilled the tub just enough to cover the kiddo's hand with water for cooling." We handed him the plushie and told him not to get it wet, as well as earplugs and a Real Life Fireman's Helmet, and we went to town. Four fast cuts around the drain hole, followed by a bash in the tiles and the last cut into the drain. We then took the boy/tub hybrid to the hospital because the fingers had become blue, and we didn't want to risk inducing tourniquet removal syndrome without first seeking medical attention. We must have made a positive impact on the little kid since he joined the youth fire department as soon as he was old enough."
