13. Add Small Zones in Larger Space
The living spaces and the open-air kitchens are of interest to many people. However, if you decide to expand your house into a large room, you still need to divide your space into smaller zones. Whenever you look at the open-plan living room pictures, there is still a kitchen area, living room area, and dining area all broken down into this larger space. Throw out carpets and furniture often as a barrier, even without a wall.
It's nice to give the space a small seating area if you're lucky enough to have a big bedroom. Think luxury hotel rooms. They always have a bed in their room, but there's a section for a desk, couch, and coffee table. Instead of just a place to sleep, you have a relaxation area for your soul. I chose the same approach when designing my bedroom, and it made the space feel ten times more luxurious. It also creates the illusion that distance is even more significant.
