15. Make Your Home Feel Magical
In her Interior Design Masterclass, Kelly Wearstler recommends finding opportunities in your home to do wonders. She has a lot of great examples in her portfolio, like doors hidden downstairs and a little bar that looks like a robot. Basically, don't limit yourself to thinking in a practical direction. When you make something in the house magical and exciting, people will remember it, and it brings a smile to their face. Thinking of an idea like this probably won't happen overnight. But once you get into the habit of thinking outside, you can create a small masterpiece.
A great example of a magical, fun home is Niel Patrick Harris' New York City townhouse. During his tour with Architectural Digest, you'll see how magical and bizarre his entire house has become. They have a large antique medicine cabinet filled with small drawers in their living room. When guests leave, they sign the guest book and randomly open a drawer. Anything inside the drawer, they have to keep it. They also have a music piano of their own. With a little bit of imagination, you might again come up with ideas for where you live.
