Although those roses have a reputation for being demanding and challenging to grow, many modern cultivars are bred with the casual home gardener in mind rather than the experienced rose gardener of the past.

Roses are also very affordable these days, with many safe, broad bushes starting at just $10 to $15. There is never a better time to give roses a try in your backyard; keep in mind the thorns! You may be pricked once or twice, especially if you are a beginner.
