33.Hydrangea

Hydrangea is a lovely flowering shrub that blooms in the summer. On the other hand, this perennial can be used as a fun science experiment for you or your children. The color of the flowers is entirely determined by the pH, or acidity vs. alkalinity, of your soil!

True blue Hydrangea blooms require substantially acidic soil (a pH of 5.5 or less). The ground must be neutral or alkaline to be pink (pH of 7 or above.) You can find pink flowers anywhere in the middle. Did you know it worked like that? Nature is incredible!
