32.Foxglove

The foxglove is a stunningly attractive species. You looked at this photo twice because it is so beautiful. The long spikes of brightly colored, speckled flowers are inimitable, even from afar, and the pile of huge leaves radiating around the flower stalk is magnificent.

This unique perennial is hardy and makes a stunning stand-alone planting in a rock garden. Note on toxicity: foxglove contains an extremely potent cardiac glycoside that is the source of the medicine digitalis, so proceed with caution.
