Peony blooms, like daylilies, have some of the shortest flowering times of all the flowers on this list. They make up for their short duration with brilliant, rich blooms that smell wonderful and make excellent cut flowers for any arrangement. Their peculiar growing pattern of drawing ants to the ripe flower buds is also a wonder for children.

Peonies do, at the very least, leave exquisite leaves behind after blooming, similar to that of a rose bush, so they do add some delicate foliage structure to a garden throughout the season. For her outdoor wedding, you'll most likely witness a bride holding a bouquet of peonies.
