Nirvana, Buenos Aires
The responsibility of delivering a captivating live performance often falls on the shoulders of musicians. Nevertheless, it would be unfair to place blame on Nirvana for their response to the unruly crowd at their Buenos Aires concert. The evening began with an opening performance by Calamity Jane, an all-woman group, who unfortunately faced a distressing situation.
Throughout their set, the audience exhibited abhorrent behavior, resorting to the despicable acts of throwing rocks and spitting at the band. When Nirvana eventually took the stage, Kurt Cobain initially contemplated canceling the performance in protest against the mistreatment of Calamity Jane. However, he chose a different path, opting for an act of punitive compliance. As a consequence, the crowd was met with an intentionally subpar show as a form of retribution.
