13. Having a "Junk Room"

A lot of people have a junk drawer in their house, but other entire junk room. For some people, this may be their garage. Or maybe it could be an unused bedroom. Some years later, you might even forget what's in the room. For most people, opening the door to their junk room gives them a bit of anxiety. They are afraid to look through objects, but they do not want to remove them at the same time.

If you think we are describing you, try to make this enjoyable. You may find something you completely forgot when you go through lots of old things, but you would start using it in your daily life. That might feel like a surprise. Or, you may begin to feel a little nostalgic for the memories attached to an item. Maybe you will find something that you think "why the heck did I told on to this?!". These are all positive experiences. As you go along, consider boxing items in clear storage bins and use a label maker to do what's in each box. If organizing everything at once seems overwhelming, remember that no one forces you to clean as you see on TV. It is perfect for doing one hour at a time.
