Last and not least, you could become a hoarder because you might believe that the next person to inherit the item is your child. A parent may have the best intention in mind, especially if they are afraid that their child will not be able to afford things like mattresses, furniture, or baby furniture. Some people even think their valuables are a fortune, and their kids can use it as an inheritance. If your children are older, talk to them before you secretly keep things for years.

Ask them if they want your furniture and collection down. You may unintentionally burden your children with additional expenses once you die instead of helping them. When someone dies, and their house is being sold, it takes weeks to clean, rent a moving truck, and more. Remember that there are many thrift stores out there filled with previously used furniture. Your child will not miss holding your old couch or mattress, and it would be much better to take care of everything before it's too late.
