Empty Nesters
If the OP's children are now adults, their parental responsibilities are largely fulfilled. While it's considerate for parents to provide support and allow their kids to return home in times of need, it's not mandatory.
The OP isn't saying their children can't return, just that they'd prefer to discourage it gently – a reasonable perspective. Some might argue that not wanting adult children to live at home shows responsible parenting.
