16. Have Extra Cash on Hand in Case of Unexpected Deals
You won't be able to take advantage of good discounts if you don't have the funds to purchase them. Many tiny charity shops and thrift stores are cash-only establishments. This isn't easy to believe in a day when so much of our lives are digital, yet it is true. If you aren't used to carrying cash, make sure you have enough before going to a secondhand store. The same can be said for a yard sale or a flea market. Always carry more money than you think you'll need because you never know what you'll come upon.
A thrift store may agree to hold an item for you, provided you promise to go to the ATM and return promptly. Alternatively, they may require you to pay a deposit. This has happened to me in the past in cash-only thrift stores. It is, however, preferable to arrive with cash in hand. Consider acquiring a new wallet or perhaps a coin purse for your money if you don't already have one.
