17. Buy when it's not in season
Most thrift stores offer their outdated clothing on sale to get rid of it. However, there are times when clothes linger at a store for months without being purchased, and they sit in a specific department. Because the proprietors prefer to have popular items sold in front, these out-of-season items are usually the cheapest goods in the store. If you can wait until the thing is no longer in season, you can receive a significant discount.
For example, I once bought my mother a brand new London Fog peacoat with a $200 price tag for $5. I also discovered a $100 Nautica jacket for $8 because it was on clearance at the end of the season. That said, you will pick over a lot of these items. On the other hand, the most expensive products are sometimes leftover because they are out of someone's price range. You're saving the best for last and making out like a bandit in some circumstances.
