28. Splurge on the giant rug
When you go shopping for rugs, they will always provide you with three or four sizes in the same pattern. Some people will decide to buy a smaller rug because they are unsure about the size of their apartment or want a small budget. They believe they only need a carpet in a particular area of the room. However, it helps if you are always trying to find a rug that is likely to be larger than expected. You want to fit inside your room. Always do your measurements before going to the store and leave enough room for some of your hardwood floors to expose. But when you have a giant rug, it makes the room look more expansive and feel a lot more luxurious.
For example, a bedroom rug should be large enough to put under the bed and create a fence on both sides. As a result, when you wake in the morning, your feet are on the carpet rather than the cold cement. You can choose to keep things out of hardwood and just put a small rug in the middle of the room. But this will make space look a lot smaller. A larger rug will also likely be large enough to place in the dining room or living room in the future when it's time to move.
