18. Spend a bit of extra money on your bed frame.
We already discussed earlier on this list how investing in a good mattress is worthwhile. The same can be said for your bed frame. The type of bed frame you use will have a significant impact on how comfortable your mattress is. If you are not careful, flimsy bed frames can even fall apart in a few years. Bed frames may appear to be luxurious, but they are often made cheaply. Always read the reviews before making an online purchase. If you are trying to save money, a used wooden bed frame from a thrift store is probably better because it's of higher quality.
For example, I paid about $300 for a bed frame on Amazon. Because of the fabric-covered headboard, it looked stunning. However, one of those roll-out bamboo wood slats, similar to those used in Ikea beds, is used in the center of beds. The bed is not sturdy enough to accommodate a mattress and a heavy box spring, and the legs buckle over time. As a result, I'm forced to use smaller, lighter beds that are bad for my back. To keep the legs from shifting, we have had to re-bolt them many times. After this poor experience, I can see why some stores charge more than $1,000 for a bed frame. If you can be sure that the bed will last for decades, it is well worth the money.
