Contemporary society generally accepts individuals who choose not to have children. In the past, societal expectations often compelled people to become parents regardless of their readiness or desire.

It's unclear whether the individual's parents were prepared or willing to have a child when he was born, but their parenting hasn't been satisfactory. While some may find it harsh, his choice to withhold certain aspects of his life from them is entirely his prerogative.
