Disney Created an Entirely New Language
In Disney's 2001 film Atlantis: The Lost Empire, filmmakers did not just want to explore the myth of an ancient underwater city; they wanted to create an entirely new language for the residents of Atlantis to speak. American linguist Marc Okrand, known for his work in developing the Klingon language of the Star Trek series, created the language known as Atlantean. Okrand created about 1,000 words that were used throughout the film.
