The Six Planets in Hercules
In the Greek mythology-themed film Hercules, The Fates can look into the past, present, and future. In one scene, they describe an event where the planets will align, allowing a prophecy to unfold. Viewers will notice, however, that only six planets are shown in the animated scene.
This is because historically, the ancient Greeks would have only been able to see six, not eight, planets in the night sky. Those six would have been Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and Earth. Disney demonstrates its commitment to staying true to the cultural and scientific knowledge of the period in which their stories are set by paying attention to historical accuracy. This commitment ensures that even fantastical elements have a certain level of realism.
