The Hunchback of Notre Dame's French Connection
Although many animated films occur in far-flung destinations, they are usually created in a single location. In creating the 1996 animated film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Disney wanted to make sure they were portraying the city of Paris as realistically as possible. Disney outsourced about 20% of the film's creation to a French-based animation studio.
Filmmakers also flew to French cities to capture their architecture and history accurately. They were even led through a private tour of the famous Notre Dame cathedral. This dedication to authenticity showcases Disney's commitment to detail. It emphasizes the importance of respecting the cultural and historical context of the settings in their films, enhancing the overall immersion for audiences.
