Bright Lighting During Movie Theater Screenings

Unlike most other countries, Malaysians watch movies in well-lit theaters. This practice is not due to a fear of the dark among moviegoers but is rooted in the strict morality rules in some Malaysian states.

The lights are left on during screenings to prevent cuddling, kissing, or other inappropriate forms of intimacy, and unmarried men and women are discouraged from sitting together.
