Java Man
In the late 1800s, one of the earliest human fossils ever discovered was found. At that time, this fossil, the Java Man, was called Homo Erectus. This remarkable discovery was made by a Dutch doctor in, you guessed it, Java.
While the Java Man was the first major discovery of its kind in the region, subsequent findings have also been significant. The Java Man is estimated to have lived between 700,000 and 1,000,000 years ago.
