Pepper is among the most widely used seasonings globally, featured in countless recipes. Although not native to Indonesia, the country has been exporting pepper for over a thousand years.
The spice was introduced to the islands by explorers from South India as early as 600 BC. Today, pepper is primarily cultivated on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
