Due to their resemblance to seals, a shark's preferred prey, surfboards can be mistaken for a potential meal. Consequently, surfers may occasionally find themselves the target of a shark bite. In this case, the surfers had caught a glimpse of the lurking shark beneath the water. However, once the surfer had mounted the wave, there was little they could do to avoid the encounter.
