State Custody of Triplets
In North Korea, where triplets are uncommon, they hold a special significance. The government takes a keen interest in these rare births. If a family has triplets, the government intervenes and removes the children from their parent's care.
During their formative years, the state undertakes to raise these children for the initial four years of their lives. The parents receive compensatory gifts in exchange for the removal of their offspring. Though the rationale remains unclear, some speculate it's linked to the nation's low birth rate.
