Try, Try Again

In 1968, at the tender age of seven, Nadia Comăneci became one of the inaugural pupils at the new school established by Béla Károlyi and his wife, Márta. Unlike many of her peers who boarded at the school, Nadia continued to live at home, given her proximity. After a year of intensive training, she began her first competition, the Romanian National Junior Championships.

Comăneci faced numerous challenges on that particular day, experiencing multiple falls and ultimately finishing in the 13th position. However, this setback did not deter the determined young athlete. Instead, she redoubled her efforts, diligently enhancing her form, perfecting her landings, and preparing for the competitions ahead. At the age of eight, Comăneci made a triumphant return to the Junior Championships, leaving no room for doubt as she dominated the competition.
