29. Kitchenware that are made of Silver
Years ago, people would keep their best silverware when the guests of honor came to dinner. Taking out silver is a vast polishing process so that each item is beautifully lit on the table. It is a point of family pride, and women often inherit silver from their parents if they are in a wealthy family. It also doubles as an item that could be quickly sold if time gets tough as silver is so valuable.
Today, we rarely see anyone using real silver kitchen utensils. They found it too complicated to worry about the cutlery, and they would instead buy a full set from somewhere like Ikea. But still, there are plenty of people out there (especially Downton Abbey fans) who want a simple silver kitchen set. Not sure if it is silver or not? Check the bottom of the dish, container, and cup. There is usually a checkmark at the bottom.
