The Pickelhaube
The term "Pickelhaube" may sound peculiar, but it represents an even stranger-looking object. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the German military utilized these unique helmets, including during their invasion of France and Belgium in 1914.
The word itself is derived from two German words – "Pickel," meaning point or pickaxe, and "Haube," meaning bonnet or hat. King Frederick William IV of Prussia designed this helmet, though its purpose remains somewhat enigmatic.
