25. Lennox Castle Becomes An Abandoned, Haunted Refuge
In 1812 in Glasgow (Scotland), John Lennox Kincaid began the construction of Lennox Castle. He is the ancient Earl of Lennox, who was part of the Kincaid Clan. The place took more than four years to finished and was built in Neo-Norman style. However, it converted into a military hospital during World War I. In the 1930s, the City of Glasgow bought the house and converted it into an asylum for the mentally ill.
Then again, the house had to serve another purpose the Second World War. By the 1980s, 1,700 patients were crammed into the castle, despite its small capacity. Due to such a decision, a battle broke down between patients and staff, which led to a great riot, and the patients locked the front door. They caused damage to the castle, and the hospital was closed in 2002. It remained empty till this day.
