He openly acknowledged his guilt regarding charges of negligent homicide, enslavement, and additional severe crimes, which he had previously contested. "I should have recognized my cruelty towards Elisabeth earlier," Fritzl conveyed to the court, as The Guardian reported.
Throughout the two and a half decades of Elisabeth's confinement, Josef inflicted upon her over 3,000 instances of assault, coerced her into motherhood seven times, and was complicit in the death of one of their children. The verdict and subsequent sentence were anticipated outcomes, given the gravity of his offenses.
