Her Mother Was Sick With Worry
It appeared as though Elisabeth had just vanished, and her mother, Rosemarie, was the only one really concerned about her daughter's whereabouts. When Elisabeth didn't come home that day, she immediately filed a missing person report, completely clueless to the fact that her daughter was being stored beneath their feet the entire time.
Rosemarie was imagining the worst, so she called the police to help track Elisabeth down. After taking the parents' statements, Josef had a perfectly reasonable answer for their child's disappearance.
