The Caretaker
In Thailand, the concept of nannies or babysitters is not commonly heard. The traditional roles within the household expect women to take on the primary caregiver role for their children. When women become pregnant, it is not uncommon for them to return to their mother's home or invite future grandmothers to live with them to receive additional support and care.
This cultural practice often leads to several generations living under the same roof. In such households, childcare responsibilities are typically shared among female family members, including mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and older siblings. This collective effort ensures that children receive care and attention from multiple sources, reinforcing the importance of family bonds and support within Thai society.
