Kitchens Are Usually Outside in Thailand

In Thailand, where the climate tends to be hot and humid throughout the year, it is common for Thai people to have their kitchens located outside their homes. Typically, houses have a semi-covered area outdoors designated for their kitchen.

Two reasons primarily drive this arrangement. Firstly, the spices and ingredients used in Thai cooking can emit a potent aroma that may not be desirable to have lingering inside the living spaces. Secondly, many Thai dishes involve cooking with hot oil, which has the potential to splatter on countertops and walls, making it more practical to have the kitchen located in an open area.
