Beware of Geckos!
Thai culture embraces a deep-rooted sense of superstition, and people often rely on signs from the universe to guide their actions and decisions in life. These beliefs cover many practices, from avoiding wearing black when visiting the sick or celebrating joyous occasions to adhering to specific rules like refraining from cutting hair on Wednesdays.
One intriguing superstition involves geckos and the belief that they can foretell the outcome of your day. If a gecko makes a noise behind your back as you leave the house, it is considered an ill omen, and Thai people believe that bad things may happen while you are out. Consequently, staying indoors in such circumstances is believed to be better. Conversely, if a gecko is seen in front or on the side of you as you leave, it is perceived as a favorable sign, and you may confidently proceed with your plans.
