The partnership between Dale Earnhardt and Revell Monogram seals the Olympics deal.
Joe Mattes successfully negotiated an agreement with Revell to produce highly sought-after die-cast models of Earnhardt's 1996 Olympics car. After thorough discussions about projected sales, Mattes made a bold request to Revell: an upfront check of $700,000 to cover the payment owed to the Olympics. He intended to persuade Dale Earnhardt Sr. to contribute the remaining amount.
Upon returning to Earnhardt, an elated Mattes informed the champion that he would only need to pay $300,000 instead of the originally proposed $1 million. Convincing Dale Earnhardt to contribute the remaining amount was no easy task, but Mattes eventually succeeded.
