17. Mixing Old and New
When some people think of redecorating their house, they imagine removing all the old furniture and buying entirely new ones. Joanna Gaines always combines old and new things in one house. In fact, before going on TV, Joanna opened her little Magnolia store filled with home decorations she gathered from flea markets. You should have seen her move heirlooms into space on Fixer Upper. She also goes on to thrift shops and flea markets to search for antiques for her body to add.
In an interview, Joanna mentioned that when she owned her first Magnolia store, people used to ask her for advice on interior design, even though she had little or no experience. Because she never went to any of the right design classes, she had to learn and make mistakes along the way. Remember that the core of the interior design is expressing your style and your family's story. So it only makes sense if you use objects that you've had for many years. And once you find a new and creative way to incorporate something you've had for years into a whole new space, it will make the object even more valuable.
