The Greek Appreciation for Salt
Much like their Roman counterparts, Greeks valued salt for its trading significance. They even used salt as currency when acquiring enslaved people. They also upheld the adage, "No one should trust a man without first eating a peck of salt with him."
The Greek word for salt, 'alas,' is also notable. Greeks are credited with coining the phrase 'not worth his salt.' Additionally, they utilized salt to produce soaps and detergents by combining it with animal fats and ashes.
