Spartan Women: A Degree of Freedom
While the status of women in ancient Greece was generally oppressive, Spartan women enjoyed a degree of liberation not afforded to their counterparts elsewhere. They had certain privileges and freedoms denied to most women.
Spartan women could own land, engage in sports, and receive an education. Despite their domestic duties, they had spheres of freedom not typically granted to Greek women.
