#22: Seconds Before the Pop

One of the greatest strengths of photography is its ability to pause time. This picture shows a tiny moment we normally never get to see. A delicate bubble floats toward the sharp tip of a cactus, and the camera captures the fraction of a second before the inevitable. Once the bubble touches the spine, it will burst instantly.

Most of us tense up just looking at the photo because we know what is about to happen. Still, the moment before the burst feels strangely peaceful. It is the calm before everything changes. Somehow, in that tiny pause, the picture reminds us how quickly any moment can shift. It is a simple scene, yet it carries a surprisingly poetic punch.
