Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman cemented her legacy by sharing the screen with Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca," but her acting career began in the mid-1930s with Swedish and German films. Her widespread international appeal led one biographer to dub her "arguably the most internationally recognized star in entertainment history."
Director Anatole Litvak once observed that "through all her trials, she clung to the belief that she remained true to herself, making her a remarkable person." In 1982, she departed from this world after battling breast cancer.
