6. Color mute
In the US, to help make space look brighter, there are usually plenty of white or creamy rooms and stay away from too dark colors on walls. In England, they like to put colors on a wall, but they can get rid of it because they usually go in light or pastel colors. If you have no idea, you can get rid of painting the whole room a specific color, instead of just a wall with accents. Some also paint through radiators, in the case of stairs or doors. This brings a lot of personality and whimsy to a home.
